Pyrmont Growers’ Markets and Sydney Farmers’ Markets: The Sustainable Way to Shop

Pyrmont Village loves the concept of farmers’ and growers’ markets – there’s something special about fresh, organic, local produce (‘food miles’ tell you just how local); support of the Slow Food movement; and the opportunity to talk to the actual growers and farmers, all of whom have a story to tell.

Regulars to Pyrmont Village will certainly be familiar with the Pyrmont Growers’ Market, held the first Saturday of each month at Pyrmont Bay Park but what about other farmers’ and growers’ markets nearby? You might be surprised at just how many there are!

Eveleigh Market is a traditional weekly undercover farmers’ market held on Saturdays, from 8:00am till 11:00am, in the custom-renovated market space at Eveleigh Railyards (also home to Carriageworks). Since its opening in February this year, Eveleigh Market has grown to house over 80 regular stall holders. Located only a few minutes walk from Redfern station the markets have quickly become a firm favourite of Sydneysiders in search of culinary treats.

Head over to the other side of the city on a Wednesday (10:00am – 3:30pm) or a Saturday (10:00am – 3:30pm) and you’ll find the Entertainment Quarter Village Markets at Fox Studios where you can indulge in fruit, vegetables, flowers, sweets and cheeses. Bring the family and after the markets head over to the EQ Kidz Zoo Animal Farm. To stay updated, become a fan of the EQ Village Markets by clicking here.

The Rocks Farmers’ Market is held every Friday from 9:00am till 3:00pm at Jack Mundey Place (corner of Argyle and George streets) and is yet another authentic farmers’ market right in the heart of Sydney. Like the Good Living Growers’ Market in Pyrmont, stallholders display their ‘food miles’ ensuring you know just how local your produce is.

Put some excitement back into your culinary life and give the supermarkets a miss – you’ll find shopping at your local farmers’ or growers’ market infinitely more rewarding!

The next Pyrmont Growers’ Market is this weekend, Saturday 6th June from 7:00am till 11:00am. Dates for the remainder of 2009 are:

  • 4 July
  • 1 August
  • 5 September
  • 3 October
  • 7 November
  • 5 December
