Pyrmont Art Lovers be sure to visit the CJ Lewis exhibition at MLC Gallery in Ultimo this month. Creativity has always been a part of Australian artist C J Lewis’ life. Ancestors including her mother were artists from performers to poets to writers. In the ‘70’s she worked for Phillip Baxter a commercial photographer where one of her major jobs led to producing a poster to promote the Unicef Organization worldwide from a badly damaged 4”x 6” black and white print. Hand toning that print for 3 days prompted Christine to enrol in a Fine Arts course at East Sydney Tech in 1978. A course she attended for five months before relocating although that didn’t stop her studying art privately.  Living in Honolulu (1978-1980) she visited galleries studying works of masters such as Dali, Gaugin and Rockwell.

Returning in 1980 she worked for Thorn EMI Recording Studios 301 alongside International superstars including Cliff Richards who she first met at 13 via her father and a host of Australian rock legends including Angus and Malcolm Young from AC/DC who she once baby-sat as young boys. Her time at the studios prompted her to start composing music and lyrics before moving in 1984 to the UK and USA where she concentrated on her various art studies.

In 1989 she relocated to the Blue Mountains and co-founded The Met Theatre in Katoomba that ran from 1991-96 appearing in various stage plays while continuing writing, painting and was honoured with a Highly Commended Award from the Blue Mountains Art Council judged by well-known artist Reinis Zusters and Architect Nigel Bell.

“I love all creativity particularly since ALL are a part of the creative process of life. I believe that our emitted vibrations of energy are returned to us in many ways. The paintings in this my first solo exhibition are based on vibrations of energy”.

Her art is in private collections in UK, USA, France, Hungary, Switzerland and Australia while some of her poetry is published in various anthologies in Australia and USA as well as on CD’s for the hearing impaired through the US International Library of Poetry.

The exhibition runs from Monday,  2nd November 2009 through to Saturday, 14th November 2009. Opening night is Wednesday, 4th November at 7:00pm.
