Commencing on Thursday, 14 May Co Operative Clay opens with a group exhibition of current members of the Inner City Clayworkers Co Operative. The Co Operative itself has been established in Glebe for around twenty five years and has had a consistent membership of potters and ceramicists well established in the field as well as emerging artists at the beginning of their career in clay. Just around the corner from Pyrmont Village, the Gallery itself is home to the Sydney Teapot Show every August.

Always changing is the works of many diverse artists who specialise in producing functional wares that can brighten any d├ęcor or add an earthy dimension to the home or office as well as those who offer a range of sculptural works that appeal to the contemplative, aesthetically or just for fun!

Included in this exhibition are recently graduated students from Hornsby and Campbelltown TAFE Colleges who are given an opportunity to exhibit throughout the year as Gallery Experience members. They participate in all the activities involved with the running of the gallery, which includes sharing time on the roster and assisting with changing exhibitions and participating in meetings where important decisions regarding the Gallery are made.

It also provides opportunities for emerging potters and ceramists to experience the commercial gallery scene and test to their artworks in the market place. Ceramic students who are interested in details about the Gallery Experience Membership 2010 can make inquiries to the gallery during business hours.

The Co Operative Clay Exhibition will showcase current and new works by established members such as Sheila Myers, Barbara Mason, Dorothy Shumack, Janette Loughrey, Rosa Chan, Ellin Pooley, Liz Truillo, Rosemary Tucker, Ilona Ede, Marian Marcatili and our newest member Heather Fisher as well as Gallery Experience members John Tomlin, Peter Tierney, Amanda Hale and Elsa Rodriguez.

The Inner City Clayworkers Co Operative is now also hiring space within the Gallery for nonmembers’ exhibitions in 2010. Those interested may apply to the gallery for details.

The Inner City Clayworkers Gallery is located at the corner of St Johns Rd and Darghan St Glebe, down toward Wentworth Park. Contact by phone (02) 9692 9717 or check website for up and coming events:

The exhibition opens Thursday, 14 May 2009 and continues until Sunday 24 May 2009. Gallery hours are Thursday to Sunday, 10.30 am – 5.00pm.
