Eat Green Design at the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo: 1 -12 August, 2009
Eat Green Design kicks off on Saturday, 1 August and runs until Wednesday, 12 August. As part of Sydney Design 09 (which runs from 1- 16 August), Eat Green Design is a sustainable exhibition and features breakfast and lunches, guest speakers and the latest sustainable products.

In Partnership with Cilla Maden of Collaborate, this event will enable you to enjoy a tasty menu of bio-dynamic, organic and locally sourced produce which has been created by Jared Ingersoll of Danks Street Depot. During these breakfasts and dinners at the Powerhouse Museum, you will have the opportunity to share platters with other diners, participate in discussions about sustainable living as well as hear from a great line-up of guest speakers presenting on sustainable living, business, lifestyle design and architecture including Paula Rogers of The Fair-Trading Company and Rachel Bending of Slingfings and Bird Textiles.

The Welcome dinner on Saturday, 1 August will kick off at 6pm and include Jared Ingersoll, Cilla Maden and Helen Whitty, Producer of Public Programs Powerhouse Museum. Bookings are essential as there are only 37 diners for each meal.

For daytime visitors to the event, you can enjoy a Fairtrade coffee while listening to a range of  lunchtime speakers including Claire Morris, Creative Director of Apple and Bee.

Marly Markets at the Malborough Hotel in Newtown: 1 August, 2009

The Marly markets in Newtown is a showcase of new up and coming designers from across Sydney. Here you will find one off samples, vintage clothing, jewellery, accessories and artists. These markets combine a fusion of shopping, socialising, eating and drinking all under the one roof. They are held on the first Saturday of each month from 11am till 4:00pm. Closing Down Garage Sale at the Enlightened Elephant in Erskineville: 1 August, 2009

Fairtrade enterprise, Enlightened Elephant, is having a closing down sale at their previous shop location at 43 Erskineville Road in Erskineville from 10:00am until 4:00pm. All the beautiful Monkeybiz Beaded Dolls and Animals and all other beadwork stock will be at half price and the owner is also selling some of their household items. These gorgeous glass-beaded dolls and animals are made by artisans who are impoverished, disadvantaged and HIV+ women and mothers living in the townships of Capetown in South Africa. The money they receive from their work helps the women to care for their children and families, empower themselves and create change. Why not take the opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping and purchase a gift that gives twice.

And remember that the Sydney Boat Show in Darling Harbour and the Pyrmont Growers’ Markets are also on this Saturday, 1 August.
