earthhour Earth Hour Tonight   Saturday, 26 March 2011Remember to turn off your lights at 8:30pm tonight – Saturday, 26 March 2011 – to support Earth Hour and celebrate a worldwide commitment to protect our planet.

When Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney, approximately 2.2 million people and 2,100 businesses in Sydney took part. It has now reached record participation in 2011, with 131 countries and territories registered to switch off. Many countries will be officially joining in for the first time including Lebanon, Jamaica, Iran, Uganda, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Chad, Azerbaijan, Gibraltar, Palestine, Suriname, Uzbekistan, Trinidad & Tobago and Lesotho.

To celebrate Earth Hour 2011, join in the festivities at First Fleet Park on the Sydney Harbour Foreshore from 6:00pm – 9:30pm. This family friendly event will feature a wide variety of entertainment and provide you with the best view of Sydney as the lights go out for Earth Hour at 8:30pm. Kids’ entertainment will include Nickelodeon’s Slime Time live on stage, as well as Spongebob. Plus, Reverse Garbage will be holding craft workshops for children of all ages.

Solar powered band, Sun Chasers, will be providing the musical accompaniment, followed by the Balmain Ukulele Club. The night will also feature a Didgeridoo and Clapstick performance by Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Art and Culture Studio performers to welcome in Earth Hour.

You can bring own picnic or check out the delicious locally sourced and produced food which will be available. Have fun!
