If you are keen to learn more about greening your home then visit Sustainable House Day or join in the first Eco Festival for kids to learn more about sustainable schools in NSW. And, there is also more fun to be had at the Big Paddo Picnic. Check out further details on these events below.

Sustainable House Day – Sunday, 13 September 2009
With approximately 10% of greenhouse gas emissions generated by households, check out some of the eco homes on display in the area and see how their owners have incorporated renewable energy and recycling into the designs to lessen their impact on the environment. Visiting a sustainable house can help you to learn how to reduce energy costs and how, as a community, we can help to manage and save water and energy right now and into the future. You will also have the opportunity to meet architects and builders and discuss practical ways in which to save on energy bills. There will also be competitions and parties held on the day in various locations.

To see a house, there is no need to book, you can just turn up between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Entry is free.

The Big Paddo Picnic – Sunday, 13 September 2009
Join in the fun with friends in the community in the gorgeous Centennial Park. Bring a picnic rug and basket, games, bikes, musical instruments and whatever else you can think of that would make the day fun for you. Kick back in the sun with a refreshing beverage and some delicious snacks while enjoying a game with friends, play a musical instrument or take a ride in the park. Everyone is welcome. What a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Eco Kids Festival – Sunday, 13 September 2009
Get along to Australia’s first eco festival designed for kids up to 10 years old. There will be much fun to be had with clowns, face painting, magic, music, puppetry, singing, dancing and eco-jesters. Join in the tree planting, arts and crafts, and workshops. You can also play video games, check out the solar gadgets and Wildlife show with worms, spiders, possums and pythons. Show bags will be available as will delicious organic treats. The Festival program is jam-packed with great kid’s entertainers including the Amazing Drumming Monkeys, The Jitterbugs, Leap Fish, The Little Scallywagz and the popular Dorothy the Dinosaur; as well as eco segments with Greepace Cli-mates, the Solahar Hot Water Spectacular and presentation.

While there make sure you visit the sustainable schools expo by Sustainable Schools NSW. Some of the profits from the day will go to Green Kids Global, a new children’s charity.
