One way to let the Pyrmont foodie in you out for a play is to attend this year’s Good Food & Wine Show in Darling Harbour. The event last year was great fun. This year the show will be running from Friday, 3 July 2009 til Sunday, 5 July 2009 and has a general entry fee of $27.50 for adults, $20.50 for children and $22.50 concession.

Visitors to the show can taste a variety of cheeses matched with a selection of wines and accompaniments at the shows Cheese Matters master course. Providing her expertise on cheese is food educator, television presenter and food writer Naomi Crisante. Crisante has over 15 years of experience in the cheese industry. For the cost of $30 this course consists of a 45 minute tutored tasting, cheese samples, tasting glasses of three different wines, course materials and a 112 page Cheese Matters recipe book.

For $50 visitors can take cooking courses from Dominique Rizzo, former head chef of Mondo Organics. The ‘Pure Food Cooking’ consultant hosts 90 minute classes every day of the show. The types of cuisine courses included are: quick and easy budget meals, world flavours, finger food, Italian, Asian, vegetarian cooking for the family, meals with dips salsas and relishes and pizza pasta and salad. Rizzo provides attendees with a whole host of techniques for making delicious healthy food at home.

Of course food isn’t the only part of this years show visitors can gain wine knowledge at the daily sessions at the Riedel Decanter theatre. Through out all three days sessions ranging from $25-$85 in cost are taught by wine industry experts.

For those more interested in tasting events, The Wine Theatre has daily sessions. All the tasting events in The Wine Theatre, with the exception of the Riedel Master class ($130), are included in the cost of entry. Each day opens with an ‘Understanding Wine’ session in the morning and through out the day each session includes a selection of wines from various parts of Australia. The Friday tasting includes two ‘after dark’ sessions one at 6:00 and the other at 7:30 giving first day show visitors the opportunity to close their evening with a tasting session.

In the Celebrity theatre patrons can view presentations by renowned chefs: Toby Puttock, Matt Moran, Gary Mehigan, George Colambaris and the heavily anticipated Gordan Ramsey. Many of the celebrity chef presentations with the exception of Gordan Ramsey ($47.50) are included in the cost of entry. Ramsey tickets are best purchased in advance from Ticketek as they are expected to sell out. The celebrities will also be available for scheduled book signings.

There is much to see, hear and taste at this year’s Good Food & Wine Show.
