IT’S MADE FROM CLAY AND IT’S IN GLEBE! Innercity Clayworkers Gallery

Jo Wood Porcelain Lamp11 IT’S MADE FROM CLAY AND IT’S IN GLEBE! Innercity Clayworkers Gallery

Whether your taste runs to stoneware or earthenware, traditional or contemporary work, vibrant colours or the more muted tones, the upcoming exhibition at the Innercity Clayworkers Gallery will have something for you, and at a price you can afford.

This artist’s co-op has been operating in Glebe for nearly 30 years now and has become somewhat of an icon in the area.  The most notable show being the annual Sydney Teapot Show, which runs for the month of August, attracting hundreds of enthusiastic visitors.

The membership at the gallery has grown this year, with our four gallery experience people from last year becoming members, two other new members, and another four potters coming onboard for 12 months gallery experience.  The range and diversity of the work has never been greater.

Our upcoming exhibition, which opens on Thursday 1 April, is called “Clayworkers Collection” and will be showcasing the best of the best in clay work and works on paper by our members.

There are some lovely functional stoneware pieces from John Tomlin, Barbara Mason, Amanda Hale, Dorothy Schumack, Peter Tierney, Elsa Rodriguez, Natalie Vethuyzen and Jill Klopfer, funky and colourful earthenware work by Heather Fisher and Tanya Peck,  humorous, meaningful or just decorative sculptural pieces, including work by Ilona Ede and Rosemary Tucker, will also be displayed, along with some beautiful watercolours from Rosa Chan.  And as far as delicate porcelain goes, there is no lovelier work than that by Ellin Pooley, Ray Stevenson and Jo Wood.  Our long-term member Sheila Myers always surprises with something new.  All members will contribute something wonderful to the show.  So it’s really not to be missed.

You are invited to come along to the gallery Thursday to Sunday, between the hours of 10.30am and 6.00pm.  The exhibition continues until Sunday 25 April.

We are located on the corner of St Johns Road and Darghan Street, Glebe.
