Pyrmont-based national pay-TV broadcaster, UBI World TV, celebrated five years in business on 12 October 2009 with an event attended by Federal Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Christopher Evans.

UBI World TV used the event to announce the launch of new locally produced Greek-language and Arabic programming and channels. The new channels will be rolled out in coming months to meet growing demand from Greek and Arabic audiences and advertisers.

Senator Evans said UBI World TV helped play a vital role in Australia’s multi-cultural success. “It is important people remain connected to their culture, language and country of their birth.”  “Part of our success as a multi-cultural nation flows from fostering those links, not seeking to deny them, not seeking to leave them behind but fostering the family, social and language links because it helps build a stronger Australia. That engagement with the world makes us stronger”, Senator Evans said.

UBI World TV President Regina Leviste-Boulos said: “UBI World TV continues to make significant investments in creating quality local multi-lingual programming, keeping communities connected. “We are proud of our achievements and look forward to many more years providing quality, diverse and stimulating local language programming not found on any other broadcaster in Australia.”

UBI World TV is Australia’s largest non-English-language broadcaster, transmitting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing breaking news, sport, finance and weather in 14 languages to more than 200,000 viewers each week.
