Pyrmont Event: How Conservative is Kevin Rudd?
Join the conversation with David McKnight about the new book, The Times Will Suit Them: Postmodern Conservatism in Australia by Geoff Boucher and Matthew Sharpe. Just around the corner from Pyrmont Village at Gleebooks, this event will focus on issues raised in the book involving a new analysis of conservatism in Australian politics.
The discussion will cover views by Sharpe and Boucher, who are fresh voices in political commentary, that Labour and the Left do not understand neoconservatism and this is resulting in policy solutions left over from the Howard era. They argue that Howard’s emphasis on unifying national images and family values was more than a policical game but, in fact, changed the shape of politics in Australia. They investigate Kevin Rudd’s conservatism and where this might lead him and the country in the future.
