Pyrmont Green Art Event: Cut + Paste Sustainable Craft Festival in Marrickville

cut and paste1 Pyrmont Green Art Event: Cut + Paste Sustainable Craft Festival in Marrickville Hey There People People! Get along to the Cut+Paste: Sustainable Craft Fest & Makers Market at The Red Rattler Theatre in Marrickville from Friday, 11 September until Sunday, 13 September 2009. This green art event takes crafting and combines this with current environmental concerns. The 3 day festival weekend will showcase some of the best fair trade, sustainable and handmade items which are made by local designers, artists and craftmakers. Tasty organic fair trade goods and Devonshire will also be available.

The event will be launched at 6:45 pm on Friday evening with a presentation by Women for Education, Freedom and Textiles (WEFT) and the Australian Karen Organisation. Learn more about their work in support of refugee and internally displaced women on the Thai-Burma border who earn a fair wage from producing textiles. Meet the refugees who have resettled in Sydney, hear their stories, enjoy a chance to win beautiful textiles in the raffle to raise money to buy and repair sewing equipment for their textile producers, and see the textile display including scarves in beautiful colours and new reversible children’s dresses made from hand-loomed sarongs, as well as gorgeous costumes made by NIDA students from Weftshop’s textiles.

Visit the eco-friendly Maker’s Market throughout Saturday (12 noon – 8:00pm) and Sunday (10:00am – 3:00pm) or join in the one of the many free workshops (see below). The festival will close with an evening of fabulous home-cooked organic food, short animation films and costume-based performances including Greedy Hen, Wife, Justin Shoulder, Yaz, Tara Tan, Trash and the Cake Lady. Dinner starts at 6:00pm and the show from 7.30pm. Entry is $10 or $15 with dinner.
