Pyrmont Village: Get Along to the Surry Hills Festival this Weekend

Surry Hills Festival 09The 10th Surry Hills Festival is on this Saturday, 18 April. Take a stroll over the Pyrmont Bridge, through town and into Surry Hills to enjoy this fun day out. Or if you cycle, park your bike for free at the Valet Bicycle Parking Station located at the southern end of Prince Alfred Park (near Cleveland Street).

The annual Festival is the major fundraiser for the Surry Hills Neighbourhood centre which provides community services including child care, English classes, multicultural services, information resources and other essential support for those in the community – and especially those in need. Make sure to donate a gold coin on the the day, which is made possible by the bands and local artists giving their talent and time, as well as residents, local business and community organisations.

It is a popular event with around 90,000 people attending to soak up the rich heritage of performing arts and fashion that this great inner city suburb has to offer. Check out the 250 market stalls featuring artisans and hand crafted fashion, ethical products, local designers and vintage. Enjoy cuisines from all around the globe in the sustainable food section – and while there take in a cooking demonstration. And for the kids, there is an interactive animal farm, rides, entertainers as well as free activities and workshops.

Take time out and kick back on the grass, enjoy the Autumn sun and relax. The day is packed with a brilliant line-up of entertainment including:

  • 5 stages featuring live bands and artists – rock, acoustic, djs, indie including Victim, MDX, the Sosueme DJs, Killa Queenz, Los 3 Dj’s, and Neil Terry (A Disco Stole My Baby)
  • The infamous Surry Hills Dog Show Off
  • Fashion Catwalk featuring up and coming designers from the local design schools
