Boat Show Sydney Sydney Boat Show Darling Harbour 2009

Whether you are a boat enthusiast or a novice there is a much to see and experience at the 2009 Sydney International Boat Show at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre and Cockle Bay Marina in Darling Harbour. The event runs from Thursday, 30 July to Monday, 3 August and hosts over 250 exhibits. If the event last year is anything to go by, then this year is a must see.

Fishing enthusiasts can attend the Nautilus Marine Boat Insurance fishing clinic. The clinic is taught by experts in the world of fishing including: Dick Lewers known to many as ‘the father of sport fishing;’ Tim Simpson the game fishing record holder; and Brett Thompson and his performing fish. All the presenters will cover a variety of topics and participants will have an opportunity to meet them personally.

Following the fishing clinic models in a variety of the latest in nautical fashion will take the stage in the Musto Fashion Parade. Fashion parades will also occur on the Better Boating Lounge stage.

The Better Boating Lounge has tips for experienced sea farers, beginners and everything in between. Speakers will cover a range of topics including: knot tying with the Sydney heritage fleet, safety at sea, cruising Europe, the history, the voyage with Pete gross and many other presentations that promise to be as entertaining as they are informative.

For a more hands on experience show attendees can join a team in the Boat Building Competition in Palm Grove. The event starts with a brief lesson on boat building and then teams have two hours to build a boat and then sail around Cockle Bay. The hastily made boats that either sink or sail in the race around Cockle Bay are sure to entertain both contest onlookers and participants alike.

The more artistically inclined show goers can either enter a photograph in the photo gallery and competition or vote on their favourite artists. Photographers in the competition have until 22 July to enter a photograph of their favourite recreational boating moment. Also featured in the gallery are acclaimed nautical artists Andrea Francolini and Christophe Luanay.

The Sydney Boat show has something for everyone. Show ticket holders can; experience Sydney Harbour in a Matilda Rocket on one of the daily tours; attend one of the many sessions hosted by boating legends like Justin & James from crossing the ditch; or learn boating history in the Classic and Historic boat display. The show runs from 10am to 8pm (Exhibition Halls) and 10am to 6pm (Cockle Bay Marina) and is $18 for adults ($15 online), $10 for children ($8 online), $42 for family ($35 online), $12 for aged pensioners, $16 for seniors and $39 for a VIP three day guest pass.
