Urban Balcony opened in February 2008 after owner Joanna Rogers decided to expand her Balcony Garden concept following the success of her Surry Hills store.

With more of us living in compact urban spaces, Joanna identified the need for a store to help with the challenges of furnishing a balcony garden. Urban Balcony’s products are hand picked to suit city balconies and make imaginative use of limited space.

The existing terraces and the rise of apartments in Pyrmont seemed to make it the perfect place for a second store. “Most of our customers choose to live in apartments and enjoy the lifestyle of being close to the city” says Joanna.

The result is a new addition to the mix of retail in the Pyrmont area. Over two floors of a converted terrace, Urban Balcony showcases their range of outdoor furniture, pots, plants, water features and garden accessories. All of which are aimed at city dwellers who want to create their own relaxing or entertaining outdoor space, but choose not to spend the weekend clipping and watering.

“After working with a number of new clients in Pyrmont, I was initially surprised by how passionate they were about the area and their community”. And as for their balconies? Joanna finds that Pyrmont dwellers “seem to have a strong sense of style and how they want to use their space. They just need some help pulling it all together!”
