Wentworth Park Games: Pyrmont-Ultimo vs Glebe-Forest Lodge Residents
Join in and celebrate the rebirth of Wentworth Park! While sadly neglected for many years, new exercise stations and playground equipment have been installed, the soccer fields are being re-turfed and proposals are in place to increase the amount of open parkland.
The Wentworth Park Games gives local residents the chance to celebrate the Park coming alive again and invites residents of Glebe and Forest Lodge to take on Ultimo and Pyrmont in a wacky and fun day of sporting activity in historic Wentworth Park. Join in the People’s Games to compete in such sports of antiquity as gumboot throwing, wine glass racing, Beckham bending, marbles, and obstacle courses. Heave away and haul away in the mass Pyrmont/Ultimo versus Glebe/Forest Lodge tug of war. Even your family dog can join in the fun with the spectacular “Greyhound Racing for Non-Greyhounds” and have the chance to race for glory in the first ever Wenty Park Mongrel Cup championship.
There will also be a commemorative Rugby League match in the Wentworth Park Sporting Complex, honouring the centenary of the NRL Foundation club, the Glebe Dirty Reds. The day will also feature a display and talks on the history of Wentworth Park. UTS and Sydney University will close the Games with a six-a-side soccer match in the central oval.
Which suburb will win the coveted Glebe Ultimo Pyrmont trophy, the GUP Cup? Following a tabulation of the day’s results, the GUP Cup will be awarded to the triumphant suburb!
